After yet another "nightless night," it’s early when I tiptoe out of the cabin while others are still asleep, blissfully unaware of the magic unfolding outside.

I head down to the shore to soak up the warmth of the morning sun. On my way there, I accidentally disturb a pack of reindeer at their breakfast, munching away on grass in a small patch on the otherwise pebbly shore. 🦌

I swear they exchange slow glances and roll their eyes. 🙄 Heaving a deep sigh, they apparently think it best to beat it and cross the river. So, off they go, apt swimmers as they are.

Abandoned by my antlered companions, I'm left with nothing but my thoughts and the enchanting chorus of warbling birds, who clearly enjoy this moment with every atom of their being, just like me.

Slightly less enchanting is the ever-present whining of midges by my ear, but they don’t seem quite as bloodthirsty as usual. Perhaps they, too, are a little dazed by such a gloriously warm morning—a rarity in these northern latitudes!

I sit down on the rocks and start to pick out pebbles. They feel nice and smooth in my hands. Then I come across some red ones and set out to find some more.

I play with them for a while, and before I even notice it, I’m arranging them so that they form a word.

Breathing in the soul-soothing nature around me, I think about this place and my own pack snoozing up in the cabin.
